P.A.C.T.: Practical Approaches to Comprehensive Treatment of Pain 2024-2025

This activity is intended for clinicians in primary care, family medicine, pediatrics, and internal medicine.

Learning Objectives

    • Discuss the definitions and mechanisms of pain
    • Identify risk factors and stratification for opioid-related aberrant behavior and opioid use disorder as part of the initial assessment
    • Apply individualized recommendations for nonpharmacologic and non-opioid treatment options for patients in pain 
    • Review general characteristics of opioid analgesics including their intended use and risks 
    • Differentiate among tolerance, physical dependence, and manifestations of opioid use disorder 
    • Recognize best practices to reduce the risks associated with prescription of opioid analgesics, including safe storage and disposal 
    • Anticipate and manage adverse effects of opioid use including signs of opioid overdose and the use of naloxone 
    • Select approaches to safely initiate opioids for the treatment of acute pain and chronic pain 
    • Identify strategies for ongoing safe and effective use of opioids in patients with chronic pain, including titration, referral, and discontinuation, when appropriate 
    • Summarize counseling strategies for caregivers and patients on opioid therapy 
    • Act appropriately to evaluate, treat, or refer patients with opioid use disorder

Please follow these instructions for evaluating and claiming continuing education credit for sessions you attend at this Pri-Med meeting:

    1. You must scan your badge each morning upon arrival to verify your attendance. On your first day, the printing of your badge serves as your check-in scan for that day. Scanning your badge will allow you access to the evaluation system.

    2. Download the Pri-Med Events – USA app or visit www.pri-med.com/TAM/eval by Sunday, September 14, 2025to complete the session evaluations. Pri-Med staff will also be available to assist you with any questions you may have.

    • Enter your email address and badge number as listed on your badge.
    • Select the day and the session title, and complete the evaluation. 
    • Attest that you attended the conference by selecting "yes" from the drop-down menu, and then designate the type of credit you seek.

    3. Receive your credit. View and print your certificate from the evaluation website or your Pri-Med.com account the next day. We do not print certificates at the conference.
