Physician Requirements

REQUIREMENT OVERVIEW
Physicians must complete three hours of Controlled Substance CME that cover educational topics specified by NCMB during each three-year CME cycle. 

Topics must address instruction on controlled substance prescribing practices, recognizing signs of the abuse or misuse of controlled substances, and controlled substance prescribing for chronic pain management.  

COURSES TO FULFILL REQUIREMENT
Complete each of the three courses below to fulfill this requirement.

1.25 Hours/1.25 CME Credits:
Assessing Pain and Initiating Non-Opioid Pain Management – Begin
1.00 Hours/1.00 CME Credits:
Reducing Risks with Opioid Use
 – Begin→
1.25 Hours/1.25 CME Credits:
Approaches to Opioid Treatment and Counseling Patients  Begin

Nurse Practitioner Requirements

REQUIREMENT OVERVIEW
Nurse practitioners must complete one hour of controlled substances education every two years.  

Topics must address substance prescribing practices, signs of the abuse or misuse of controlled substances, and controlled substance prescribing for chronic pain management. 

COURSES TO FULFILL REQUIREMENT
Complete the course below to fulfill this requirement. 

1.33 Hours/1.33 Contact Hours (Including 0.22 Hours of Pharmacology):

Physician Assistant Requirements
