This is a “state-of-the-art” review of all addiction medicine in 60 minutes! We will first explore the neurobiological basis of the addictive process; go over assessment and diagnosis; and present guidelines for brief intervention and counseling, which are essential clinical tools for all addictions. We will then discuss the unique aspects of alcohol, opioids, stimulants, cannabis, and the behavioral addictions with emphasis on the most current safe and effective pharmacological options.
