Biography
Ashlyn Sakona completed medical school at Thomas Jefferson Medical College in 2014 and residency at the University of Pittsburgh in a dual internal medicine-global health track. She completed her infectious diseases training at UCLA in 2019 after which she moved to Lilongwe, Malawi. Her focus in Malawi was medical education of local medical students and clinicians, and she held adjunct positions with the Medical College of Malawi and Seed Global Health. During this time she completed tropical medicine course work through Médecins Sans Frontières and parasitology training at the South Africa National Institute for Communicable Diseases culminating in a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the Royal College of Physicians of London. She returned to UCLA as a clinician educator in 2020 where she currently attends on the general infectious diseases teaching service and the Neuro infectious diseases service. In the outpatient setting she sees a wide variety of general infectious disease processes with a particular fondness for travel medicine and infections in the returning traveler.
