Biography

Claire Panosian (Dunavan), MD, DTM&H, FIDSA, FASTMH, Clinical Professor of Medicine Emeritus-Recalled, UCLA School of Medicine, attended Stanford University, Northwestern University Medical School, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She completed residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago and fellowship in infectious diseases and geographic medicine at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, where her post-doctoral research focused on parasites. A Past-President of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Panosian is a noted expert in travel medicine and tropical infectious diseases. Her second career as a medical journalist includes 6 years as a writer, reporter, and co-anchor for Lifetime Television and frequent contributions to Scientific American and Discover magazine. She has also created and launched newspaper columns about infectious diseases for the Los Angeles Times, Tribune Company, and Media News Group. She is currently working on a book about modern food-borne infections and an anthology of stories about tropical medicine.
