Biography
Dr. Salim Hayek is the Edward Randall and Edward Randall Jr. Distinguished Chair in Internal Medicine and Vice President/Chief Transformation Officer at the University of Texas Medical Branch. A renowned cardiologist and NIH-funded physician-scientist, Dr. Hayek served as the former Medical Director of the University of Michigan's Frankel Cardiovascular Center Clinics. He is a co-author of the 2022 AHA/ACC/HFSA Guidelines for the Management of Heart Failure and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications in leading medical journals. His research expertise spans bench-to-bedside translational science, with particular focus on inflammatory mechanisms underlying cardiovascular and kidney disease. Dr. Hayek's contributions to cardiovascular medicine have been recognized through several prestigious awards, including the American College of Cardiology Douglas P. Zipes Distinguished Young Scientist Award, the American Heart Association Samuel Levine Early Career Investigator Award and the Jerome W. Conn Award for Excellence in Research.
