Biography
I received my MD from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and completed residency and fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital. I am currently Professor of Neurology and Director of Stroke Research at Northwestern University. I have a long track record in stroke and TIA research and published extensively on stroke epidemiology and management. I am the PI for Northwestern’s Regional Coordinating Center in the NIH Stroke Trials Network, a network that promotes innovative clinical trials in stroke. My other research interests have been driven by mechanistic understanding of cerebrovascular disease with a major focus on imaging-based markers of risk. I am co-PI of the ongoing Mechanisms of Early Recurrence in Intracranial Atherosclerotic Disease (MYRIAD) study. I also am PI for the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) study to improve disparities in awareness and activation of 9-1-1 after stroke in Chicago.
