Biography

Dr. Nathan is a graduate of Harvard College (1951), Harvard Medical School (1955) and was an intern and resident in Medicine at the then Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and a Clinical Associate at the National Cancer institute from 1955 to 1959. He was a staff hematologist at Peter Bent Brigham until 1966 and then became chief of hematology and then hematology/oncology at Children's Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He was physician-in-Chief at Children's from 1985 to 1995 and President of Dana-Farber from 1995 to 2000. The author of over 350 papers and two popular medical books, he is also the editor of the leading textbook of pediatric hematology now in its seventh edition. Nathan is the recipient of the National Medal of Science, The Howland Medal of the American Pediatric Society and the Kober Medal of the Association of American Physicians.
