Biography

Dr. Gudzune is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine, Medical Director of the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM), and a Fellow of The Obesity Society. Dr. Gudzune attended Tulane University, where she received her Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees. She completed her training in internal medicine at the University of Maryland Medical System. After residency, Dr. Gudzune completed a clinical research fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In addition to her role with ABOIVI, she is currently an Associate Professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. At Johns Hopkins, Dr. Gudzune founded and directs the Healthful Eating, Activity & Weight Program, where she practices as an obesity medicine physician. Her research focuses on obesity, specifically how patient obesity influences the healthcare experience and contributes to obesity-related health disparities, the efficacy of weight management interventions, particularly commercial weight-loss programs and anti-obesity medications, and how features of the built and social environment influence lifestyle habits among low-income urban populations. Her research has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality, and other organizations throughout her career.
