Biography

Vera Bittner, MD, MSPH, is a professor of medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and section head of preventive cardiology in the division of cardiovascular disease. She also directs the cardiac rehabilitation program and the coronary care unit. Dr Bittner is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the National Lipid Association, the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and the American College of Physicians. She is past president of the National Lipid Association and the Southeast Lipid Association, and currently chairs the American College of Cardiology Prevention committee. She conducts clinical research in cardiovascular disease prevention and has published widely on this topic area with a particular emphasis on clinical lipidology and heart disease in women.
