Biography
A retired U.S. Army Reserve Major General, Dr. Barkin graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Miami in 1970. Also a graduate of the UM School of Medicine, he was selected for the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and later inducted into the distinguished alumnus Hall of Fame. Among his list of accolades are a George F. Paff Teaching Award, presented annual by Miller School medical students; the American College of Physicians' Evergreen Award for Chapter Management (Florida); and the American College of Gastroenterology's Auxiliary Award for the best paper published at the College's annual meeting. In 1995, he was bestowed the title o Mastr in recognition of his achievments in clinical gastroenterology and contributions to the College of Gastroenterology.
