Gaps in HIV Prevention Care

Overview

• Demonstrate barriers to HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) implementation
• Discuss the barriers to implementing HIV prevention that is >99% effective in preventing the acquisition of HIV infection including:
o Decreased knowledge and awareness of PrEP by PCPs
o Patient lack of perception of HIV risk
o Stigma from HCPs or family/partners/friends
o Distrust of HCPs/systems
o Perceived access and costs of PrEP
o Concerns around PrEP side effects/medication interactions
o Disparities between men and women
