Overview

In this lecture, audience members will understand a public health approach to addressing and responding to human trafficking in the healthcare setting. A socio ecological model of vulnerabilities will be explored. Mental health and physical health impacts of trauma will be discussed. A trauma informed approach to meeting the biopsychosocial needs of labor and sex trafficked patients will be discussed.

  • Increase awareness and identification of trafficking victims in the healthcare setting

  • Develop systems of care promoting re-integration of trafficking survivors
  • Review how trafficking occurs and the red flags of exploitation
